In 1927, the Jack Rathjen family moved to the Vernon area. This family loved singing and soon began to gather for Christian fellowship with others in this area. In 1928 they invited two men to come and hold evangelistic meetings.
Reverend Ernie North was one of those two men and he was invited to become the very first pastor of Elim Tabernacle, pastoring form 1928 to 1930. A bake shop on 30th Avenue was renovated and services were held in the front while the pastor lived in the back.
We have been serving Jesus Christ and the community of Vernon ever since. There came a suggestion that the name 'Elim Tabernacle' be changed to 'Alexis Park Church' in order to relate more closely to our community and in order to better serve the people of the Alexis Park area. At the church's annual business meeting in 2001, the name was changed.
Today, the focus and desire of Alexis Park Church is, that by the grace of God, to be a church that meets the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of any and all who come to us.
As a church, we look to the future with great expectation as we diligently seek the face of God personally and corporately.
